This position will be based at the Kurmuk Gold Mine in Ethiopia

Description

The purpose of the position is to manage and coordinate the implementation of Group SHEQ related programmes and systems according to Minopex, client and legislative requirements

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements according to the Minopex Group SHEQ objectives.
  • Ensure the implementation of programs and systems across the allocated Minopex sites to create awareness and compliance according to the Minopex Group SHEQ objectives.
  • Ensure the implementation and maintenance of the Minopex SHEQ Management System to monitor adherence to SHEQ and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure that corporate objectives and targets are effectively managed and desired results are achieved.
  • Ensure site-level objectives and targets are in line with corporate and client objectives and targets and manage them accordingly.
  • Provide and manage programs to assist sites to comply with legal requirements, i.e. Mine Health and Safety Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, COIDA Act, OHSACT Regulations etc.
  • Monitor and report on all SHEQ-related activities and actions according to organizational and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure the auditing of SHEQ systems and compliance according to organizational standards and legislative requirements.
  • Address non-conformances according to audit reports by developing and implementing corrective actions across the sites.
  • Ensure all legal appointments are in place, valid and correct according to required legislation.
  • Coordinate site certification processes according to ISO standards, (i.e. ISO 9001, 14001 & ISO45001) to ensure adherence to client specification and organizational standards
  • Continuously analyse SHEQ information to identify problems, deviations and recommend preventative and corrective actions accordingly.
  • Participate in high actual and potential incident/accident investigations to determine, report, and eliminate root causes according to legislative and ISO requirements.
  • Advise on the implementation of SHEQ related training and development to create awareness and adherence to legislative requirements.
  • Provide specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders on SHEQ related programs, systems, and adherence.
  • Establish and maintain sound relationships with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure that relationships with Government Authorities (DMR & DOH) are effectively managed and maintained.
Qualification Requirements
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety Management.
  • Certificate in Health & Safety Management.
  • SHEQ Auditors Certificate.
  • ISO45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems Lead

Experience and Skills Requirement
  • Minimum 10 years of experience and knowledge of Gold plant operations.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Health & Safety Management position.
  • Legal Liability Training on the MHSAct.
  • ISO 9001 Quality Management Training.
  • ISO 14001 Environmental Management Training.
  • ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems Training.
  • Advanced Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment experience.
  • Computer literate in MS Office.
  • Strong Presentation and report-writing skills.
  • English language proficiency.
  • Valid driver’s licence code B, EB or C1
