Job Summary

The Senior Project and Infrastructure Finance Officer is responsible for identifying, appraising, structuring, negotiating, and monitoring the Bank's Project & Infrastructure Finance investments in debt, mezzanine, equity, and other instruments in accordance with approved operational guidelines and business strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Business development, source and assess opportunities, identify new investments opportunities to ensure the department meets its set targets.
  • Structure complex investments (comprising both debt and equity) according to understanding and assessment of client and country risks.
  • Lead transaction teams from origination, due diligence, internal approvals, and processing of debt and equity investment, actively handling key work and directing and coordinating work of other team members from across multiple departments.
  • Undertake initial screening of opportunities for funding presented to the Bank to develop a pipeline of projects.
  • Review and initiate signing of non-disclosure agreements and preliminary project information.
  • Undertake initial analysis of opportunities focusing on management, sponsor strength, Know Your Customer checks, financials, and development impact to evaluate fit.
  • Prepare preliminary evaluation memos; draft an indicative term sheet; negotiate indicative terms with the clients.
  • Appraise various projects to determine the commercial and financial viability of projects by coordinating and undertaking on site due diligence missions.
  • Prepare and present credit papers to the operations technical committee and credit committee for evaluation.
  • Review and negotiate transaction and security documents including facility agreements, guarantee deeds, direct agreements, and mortgage deeds amongst others to meet the bank's annual budget.
  • Liaise with other departments within the Bank for the smooth disbursement process through timely disbursement request from clients and follow up on fulfilment of any conditions subsequent and process waiver request.
  • Build relationships with clients/partners and network through workshops, conferences, and meeting with the business community to increase the client base.
  • Actively keep abreast of regional and industry developments, trends and follow up with existing clients for repeat business.
  • Lead key tasks/activities within the team and assume responsibility for timely execution and consistency in quality of work including compiling and reviewing internal project/transaction documentation, mentoring and coaching of junior officers and represent the department on various committees.
  • Be flexible to learn, participate as well as originate business to support the TDB Group.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • A Masters' degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Banking, Finance, or Economics with relevant professional qualifications as added advantage.
  • A minimum of 8 - 10 years of relevant professional experience in a Commercial/Development Banking or Financial institution in positions of increasing complexity and responsibility in finance, investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, structured finance, corporate finance, or private equity with a proven track record of sourcing, structuring, and closing investments.
  • Robust experience in identifying, originating, and qualifying new business opportunities, developing, and executing results-driven client engagements.
  • Advanced financial, credit and risk evaluation skills, with demonstrated ability to structure and negotiate a variety of complex financial instruments (debt and equity).
  • Excellent business development and client relationship skills, track record and ability to focus on clients' needs effectively and identify potential business partners.
  • Strong analytical skills to review and analyze complex financial information.
  • Demonstrate strong written, presentation, and communication skills and ability to synthesize and present information effectively and tailored to different audiences.
  • Fluency in English is a requirement. Knowledge of another official language of TDB Group's member states (French or Portuguese) would be an added advantage.

The duty station is Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
