Description
This position is responsible for the technical metallurgical aspects of the entire process operations. This includes the management of the plant’s metallurgical staff in terms of day to day operation of the plant as well as relieving the Plant Manager, who is responsible for management of all of the contractual requirements
Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensure compliance with the Company’s Health and Safety responsibilities
• Effective planning of short to medium term production to ensure optimum utilization of available plant capacity
• Ensure materials and supplies are available for production processes
• Production operations are performed according to policies and procedures
• Production targets are met according to specified standards
• Production sections are maintained according to requirements
• Manages subordinates' key performance areas by setting and monitoring performance standards and taking action to correct deviations to achieve the section's objectives
• Plans and co-ordinates plant wide work load and sets and adjusts individual objectives
• Prepares career development plans, appraises progress and provides training and coaching to develop subordinates to their full potential
• Over-inspect sub ordinates in their daily activities to ensure maintenance according to organisational standards and the maintenance requirements
Qualification Requirements
• Matric (Grade 12) or an equivalent qualification registered at NQF Level 4, including relevant NATED courses (e.g., N3 Certificate) where applicable.
• National Certificate Mineral Processing Level 2 or equivalent Minerals Processing Qualification will be advantageous
Experience and Skills Requirements
• 10 years’ experience in a plant production environment with advanced process operation knowledge and experience.
• Demonstrated operational experience in crushing, milling, gravity recovery, CIL, elution and Horizontal Belt Filter (HBF) operations will be advantageous.
• Understanding of gold recovery optimisation, metallurgical accounting and plant performance monitoring.
• Experience in plant shutdown planning, operational troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Knowledge of process safety, cyanide management and critical risk controls within a gold processing environment.
• Experience coordinating production activities across multiple process sections and operating teams.
• Supervisory and people management skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Time management skills.
• Computer literate in MS Office.
• English language proficiency.
